From Bare Skin to a Bouncy Coat: A Case of Alopecia X
Submitted by
This case study describes a two-and-a-half-year-old male Pomeranian named Boghi, who was diagnosed with Alopecia X. Previous treatments with oxygen therapy and topical medications were unsuccessful. The dog was then treated with MLS® Laser Therapy using an M-VET device. The treatment led to full hair regrowth after 10 sessions. A year later, when the condition relapsed, the same treatment protocol was reinitiated, and the symptoms were completely resolved after five sessions. However, follow-up protocol was recommended to the owner to reduce the risk of symptom worsening.

Clinical Case
This case study describes the successful treatment of Boghi, a two-and-a-half-year-old male Pomeranian who suffered from Alopecia X. For over a year, Boghi had been losing his hair, and at the time of presentation, he had complete hair loss on his neck, back, and the outer and back areas of his hind limbs. The owners had previously tried conventional treatments like oxygen therapy and topical medications, but these had proven insufficient to resolve the widespread hair loss.
The clinic decided to pursue a new therapeutic protocol centered on MLS Laser Therapy. The treatment regimen was comprehensive, using both “Alopecia phase 1” and “Alopecia phase 2” programs within the same session. Initially, the sessions took place three times a week, but they gradually decreased to once every two weeks. The treatment yielded impressive results, with hair growth appearing after the sixth session, approximately one month into the therapy. The treatment was continued for a total of 10 sessions until the coat fully grew back. A year later, Boghi experienced a relapse, but the same protocol was reinitiated with a high success rate, resolving the symptoms in just five sessions and demonstrating the therapy’s effectiveness for both initial treatment and maintenance.
Clinical Examination
- Extensive hair loss on neck, back, and hind limbs
- Alopecia confirmed as primary condition
- No response to prior treatments
Physical medicine and rehabilitation protocol
MLS® Laser Therapy (M-VET device):
- Combined use of “Alopecia phase 1” and “Alopecia phase 2” programs in the same session
- Initial frequency: 3 sessions per week
- Gradually reduced to once every 2 weeks
Therapy reinitiated with the same protocol after relapse one year later
Results
- First signs of hair regrowth after 6 sessions (about 1 month)
- Full hair regrowth after 10 sessions
- Complete recovery also achieved after relapse, with results visible after 5 sessions
Follow-up Protocol: Ongoing maintenance recommended to prevent recurrence.
