From Sore Soles to Happy Hops: How Laser Therapy Healed a Rabbit
Submitted by
Teddy, a three-year-old male Lop rabbit, was diagnosed with pododermatitis. The rabbit had redness and scabbed lesions on the soles of its lower limbs. Previous treatments with topical disinfection, enrofloxacin, and meloxicam had been unsuccessful. The rabbit was then treated with MLS Laser Therapy as a monotherapy. The treatment, administered over four weeks, showed progressive improvements and resulted in a full recovery of all clinical signs.

Clinical Case
This case study focuses on Teddy, a three-year-old male Lop rabbit, who was suffering from a chronic and particularly stubborn case of pododermatitis. The condition, characterized by painful redness and large scabbed lesions on the soles of his lower limbs, had persisted for some time despite previous treatments. His owner had tried a number of conventional methods, including topical disinfection and the use of parenteral enrofloxacin and meloxicam, but none of these had yielded a significant improvement. Fungal diseases were ruled out, confirming that the pododermatitis was the primary issue.
Due to the lack of success with standard approaches, the veterinary team decided to use MLS Laser Therapy as a monotherapy. The treatment protocol was meticulously planned and adjusted based on Teddy’s progress. The first five sessions utilized a point-to-point program for “acute inflammation” to reduce the initial swelling and pain. This was followed by three sessions with a specific “pododermatitis” program, and finally, a final two sessions with an “alopecia” program to promote hair regrowth on the healed skin. The sessions were scheduled three times a week initially, then reduced to twice a week, and finally, once a week. The results were excellent, with a progressive improvement observed throughout the therapy, culminating in a complete recovery of all clinical signs within a month.
