The Bite That Couldn’t Stop Her: Healing Angioedema with Laser Therapy

Submitted by

This case study focuses on Tuchka, a two-year-old Weimaraner, who was diagnosed with angioedema likely caused by a snake bite. During the clinical examination, Tuchka was fully conscious and had a pasty swelling in the submandibular area. Furthermore, there was a “pair” wound on the inside of her cheek. Blood tests showed symptoms of hepatic distress, leukocytosis, haemoconcentration and impaired coagulation capacity. Her condition worsened, leading to breathing and swallowing difficulties. She was treated with adrenaline, oedema-reducing taping, and MLS Laser Therapy. Tuchka showed immediate improvements after the first laser session and was discharged after the third, with her symptoms fully resolved.

Clinical Case

This case study details the critical treatment of Tuchka, a two-year-old female Weimaraner, who was diagnosed with angioedema, a condition likely triggered by a snake bite. Her owner reported that Tuchka was known to play with snakes, and an examination revealed a snakebite-like wound inside her cheek. Her condition rapidly worsened, causing severe swelling of her muzzle that led to life-threatening difficulties with breathing and swallowing.

Due to the emergency nature of the situation, a rapid and effective treatment protocol was initiated. Tuchka was put on an infusion of adrenaline to manage her swelling and was immediately started on MLS® Laser Therapy using the “Oedema” scanning program. To further assist with the swelling, oedema-reducing taping was applied to aid in lymphatic drainage. The results were dramatic and immediate. After just the first laser therapy session, Tuchka’s breathing and swallowing became noticeably easier. Her condition continued to improve so rapidly that after a total of only three laser treatments, she was well enough to be discharged and return home to her owners.

– Adrenaline infusion to manage acute swelling
– MLS® Laser Therapy (M-VET device): “Oedema” scanning program
– Oedema-reducing taping to aid lymphatic drainage

Results
